IV - FAQ

I made this guide to inform all who would like to kill Mithril Dragons, but never knew what to use to get the job done. The equipment pictures are just what I use, if you can't afford anything I am wearing, I have included a list of equipment that is not as good as what i have on, but it still works.

=====================================================

I - Equipment (Melee, Mage, Range):

1 - Melee:

Melee is pretty effective, but not the best way to kill the dragons. You may hit alot of 0s (that's why the theres high recommendations), but being super poted whoud help out alot. You can also use prayer boosters (ultimate strength & incredable reflexes if you 90+ prayer, superhuman strength & improved reflexes if your prayer level is in the 70s). You want to be wearing as much magic defence as you can without sacreficing your strength and attack bonuses (whats why I suggest using them while meleeing). You will also be using Protect From Melee while fighting with this style.

Recommended Stats:

90+ Attack

90+ Strength

90+ Defence

90+ Hits

70+ Prayer

Gear:

Helm - Helm of Neitiznot > Beserker Helm > Warrior Helm > Verac's Helm/Initiate/Proselyte Sallet

Body - Kharil's Top > 3rd Age Range Top > Black D'hide Top

Legs - Kharil's Skirt > 3rd Age Range Legs > Black D'hide Chaps

Weapon - Abyssal Whip > Dragon Scimitar

Shield - Dragonfire Shield > Anti Dragon Breath Shield

Amulet - Amulet of Fury > Amulet of Glory > God Stole

Ring - Ring of Wealth > Beserker Ring > Warrior Ring > Ring of Life

Cape - Skill cape (t) > Fire cape > Skill Cape > Obsidian cape > Legends

Gloves - RFD Gloves > Gauntlets > Spiked Vambraces

Boots - Rune Boots > Climbing Boots > White Boots

Quiver - N/A

Inventory:

Super set (4)

4 Super Restore (4) > Prayer pots (4)

Anti Fire pot (4)

18 Manta Ray > Tuna+Corn Potatos > Turtles > Sharks > Mushroom+Onion Potatos

2 - Range:

Range (in my opinion) is the best way to kill, you will hit quite often. Using ruby bolts (e) you can hit the occasinal 40+, and with diamond bolts (e) you can hit through range defence (which will act like veracs special effect). The dragons hit a max of only 18 wih their magic attack. Your hides will protect from some of the magic attack (still hits pretty often) and the anti fire shield and pot will protect from the fire breath. You will also be using Protect From Range while fighting with this style (using protect from melee while in melee range of them works well to (you still have to worry about magic attacks though)).

Recommended Stats:

70+ Defence

80+ Range

80+ Hits

70+ Prayer

Gear:

Helm - 3rd Age Range Coif > Robin Hood Hat > God Coif > Range Helm > Ranger Hat > Snakeskin bandana > Kharil's Coif

Body - Kharil's Top > 3rd Age Range Top > Black D'hide

Legs - Kharil's Skirt > 3rd Age Range Legs > Black D'hide > Penance Skirt

Weapon - Rune Cross Bow

Shield - Dragonfire Shield > Anti Dragon Breath Shield

Amulet - Amulet of Fury > Amulet of Glory > God Stole

Ring - Ring of Wealth > Archer ring > Ring of Life

Cape - Ava'a Accumulter > Skill Cape (t) > Fire Cape > Skill Cape > Obsidian Cape > Legends Cape

Gloves - RFD Gloves > 3rd Age Vambraces > Black D'hide Vambraces

Boots - Range boots > Snake skin boots

Quiver - Diamond Bolts (e) > Ruby Bolts (e) > Rune Bolts > Adam Bolts > Mith Bolts

***Ruby Bolt (e) Effect: Chance of losing 10% of your Hitpoints to remove 20% of your opponent's Hitpoints. Does not work if you can't spare the Hitpoints

***Diamond Bolt (e) Effect: Chance of negating a sizeable portion of your opponent's defence against Ranged attacks.

3 - Mage

Mage is probebly the worst to use outta the three. Spells splash alot, no matter how high you magic attack is. But its a last resourt is you don't have veracs or bolts. You can only kill around 4-5 dragons per run, but it's still a chance at a visage or dragon full helm. You will have to use your best spells (Slayer dart, Fire wave, or Claws of Guthix (if you have void knight mace) while killing these (do not use bolts or blasts like you would on iron or steel dragons). You will also be using Protect From Range while fighting with this style (using protect from melee while in melee range of them works well to (you still have to worry about magic attacks though)).

I - Route to get to Mithril Dragons:

How to get to them (if you've completed the part of Otto's mini quest). You will need a games necklace (enchanted saphire neclace) to teleport you to the barbarian outpost.

Follow the path to the whirlpool, and jump in (make sure you have the right gear before going in).

After you jump into the whirl pool you will find yourself in a dungeon. There will be a stair case next to you, but before you go down drink a dose of anti fire pot and through on protect for range (becuase of Brutal Green dragons).

Then run southeast untill you see another stair case headed up (follow pink line on map below). WARNING! There is a Mithril Dragon at the top of the stairs so be careful, you may want to put protect for melee on before you head up the stairs.

If you do forget something, and don't have and form of teleportation on you there are escape logs you can take that will take you out of the caves and you will end up somewhere near Baxtorian Falls.

Notes:

This creature is the only monster to drop the Dragon full helm. An antidragon shield is an absolute must when facing these monsters and a dragonfire shield is recommended! Highly defensive armour that gives a good magic defence bonus and "Protect from Melee" are also strongly advised - these monsters are known to rip through players with 99 defence and Barrows armour! Prayer-boosting equipment may also be helpful. Their magic and ranged attacks can hit a maximum of 18 damage so be wary when standing at a distance. When standing next to them they do not use their ranged attack, only magic, dragonfire, and melee (28 max).

Mithril dragons are immune to poison (unless poisoned by a "Smoke" ancient magick spell) and can sometimes drop multiple items at once, especially with clues.

Magic attack max hit - 18

Range attack max hit - 18

Melee attack max hit - 28

Ancient Page info:

The ancient page is one of the unique drops from these mithril beasts. Although it doesn't have a set purpose besides copying it in "My Notes" . It may give hints on the mysteries of the Ancient Caverns. The pages also has a choice to destroy, making it not tradeable.

***TIP***

You do not need "My Notes" with you when you copy them down, you can leave it in your bank and copy the notes as you get the pages.

When copied into your notes a window will pop up on your Runescape screen that looks similar to this:

So far there is an unknown amount of pages you can copy to your notes.

------------------------

Chewed Bones info:

The chewed bones are the other uniqure drop from the dragons. Like the Ancient Page, they have any option to destroy, so they won't be tradable.

Once you have aquired these bones, head to your bank and grab:

1 - A Woodcutting Axe

2 - A Tinderbow (or bow if you've done that part of Otto's quest)

3 - The Chewed Bones

4 - Any Logs

Then head back to the whirl pool pier (DON'T JUMP IN!!!)

You will find 3 different Pyre Sites (map below) in which you will construct a little boat, then you will add the chewed bones in it, light them on fire, and finally set them out to sea.

Crafting and Firemaking requirements for logs:

level 11 for reg logs/achey

level 25 for oak

level 40 for willow

level 45 for teak

level 52 for arctic pine

level 55 for maple

level 60 for mahogany

level 70 for yew

level 85 for magic

Example: You will need level 60 crafting and firemaking to construct on the pyre site with maple logs.

When you get to a Pyre Site with the correct items (listed above), you can now construct the boat.

Click on the Construct options:

You characters will do everything else (example shown here):

Rewards:

You may be thinking to yourself "why would I waist my time doing this?" Well besides the crafting and firemaking experience you get from it (not much to get excited about), the barbarian spirit that you set to rest will drop an item into you inventory as a reward. You can get anything from a 1 dose attack mix potion, to a DRAGON FULL HELMET! So there are two ways to get the helmet; 1) Kill mithril dragons and hope for a drop 2) kill mithril dragons, get chewed bones, and construct on a pyre site and hope for the best.

Also, burning a pyre ship will grant you a bonus to your Prayer experience depending upon which type of logs you use to construct the ship. You will receive a 300% bonus to Prayer experience the next few times that you bury bones.

Logs - # of bones with enhanced experience

reg logs/achey - 1

oak - 2

willow - 2

teak - 3

arctic pine - 3

maple - 3

mahogany - 4

yew - 4

magic - 5
