Runescape Mini-Games: Keldagrim Blast Furnace

==>All Runescape Guide List<==

==>Runescape Mini-Games Guide List<==

The Keldagrim Blast Furnace is an alternate way to smelt your metal bars. You'll need to work in a group and use teamwork to take care of the various jobs to keep it going. Each job requires level 30 or better in a skill, including Crafting, Agility, Firemaking and Strength to power each part of the furnace. Of course, it's well worth it as the furnace only requires half of the Coal normally needed to smelt a bar!

The Basics

The Blast Furnace can be found in the Dwarven city of Keldagrim. You will only be able to gain access to it after starting the The Giant Dwarf . The Furnace is located in the southeast corner of Keldagrim, over a bridge. It's underground, and the building will be marked with a Furnace symbol on your mini-map.

Mine Carts

You can also take the Mine Carts in the Dwarven Mines for a quick way to get to Keldagrim. You must have already visited Keldagrim before, and in order to use the cart you must pay 150gp for a Ticket.

The Mine Carts can be found near Nurmof in the Dwarven Mines, and they will bring you to the tracks just south of the Blast Furnace.

Operating the Furnace

If you haven't yet acquired a Smithing level of at least 60, the Foreman requires you to pay 2,500gp for every 10 minutes of using the Furnace.

To operate the furnace, a group of at least 5 is needed. Each team member can take on one of the following tasks:

Keep the Furnace Lit

Requires: 30 Firemaking and a Spade.

Experience: 5 Firemaking exp per stoke.

Just shovel the Coke (Coal) into the Furnace to keep it going. A Spade respawns nearby, so there's no need to bring one with you.

Pump Superheated-Air

Requires: 30 Strength.

Experience: 2 Strength exp per pump.

Pull the bar to pump air into the Furnace. You will have to listen to the gauge monitor as you will get hurt if you don't!

Repair Broken Parts

Requires: 30 Crafting and a Hammer.

Experience: 50 Crafting exp per fix.

Sometimes parts of the furnace will break, including the Pipes on either side of the temperature gauge, the Drive Belt or the Cogs on the north end. Click on them to repair them.

It's a good idea to have one person fixing the holes in the pipes, while another person stands near the Cogs and fixes that side.

Cycling on the Bike

Requires: 30 Agility.

Experience: 1 Agility exp per cycle.

For the agility part of the furnace you are required to ride a stationary bike to run the conveyor belt.

Either bring Energy Potions or have someone ready to take over for you when you get tired.

Watch the Temperature

This doesn't require any skills or give any experience, but someone needs to be watching it at all times. It shows you how hot the furnace is, and if there is anything broken.

Parts of the Furnace

The Foreman will explain to you about the uses for each part of the furnace, and where each person on your team should be.

Blast furnace plan

Stove - This needs to be kept full of Coal, or the Furnace will not work.

Coke - The Coke is a pile of Coal. Using a Spade you will move the Coal into the stove to keep the furnace working. The Spade is found in that area as well.

Air Pump - The pump needs to be operated to keep the hot air blasting through the furnace. Be careful and listen to the person watching the temperature. If they tell you to stop, be sure to stop! If you don't, the furnace will overheat and you'll take from 9-13 damage.

Temperature Gauge - The Temperature Gauge is used to monitor the temperature and condition of the furnace. If the needle is reaching the end of the red area, tell the pumper to stop or he will get hurt! The gauge also alerts you of a broken part, so be sure to tell your team!

Peddle - The peddle is used to keep the conveyor belt running so that it can feed the ores into the furnace.

Conveyer Belt - The conveyor belt is where you place all your ores. By clicking on the conveyer belt you will have an option to drop all your ores at once instead of dropping them in one by one.

Furnace - The furnace is where all the ores drop in for smelting after being put on the conveyor belt.

Dispenser - The dispenser is where you are able to collect your smelted bars. Before you can collect your bars, they must be cooled off. Either wait a short while, or throw a bucket of water on them.

Blast Furnace Bar Stock

Sink - The sink is located at the southern part of the room. Fill a bucket with water and use it on the Dispenser to cool off the bars. Be warned however, that you'll lose some bars by doing this.

Anvils - The anvils are located at the north of the room and can be used to smith your bars. You're only allowed inside if you have level 60 Smithing or better.

Blast Furnace Traders

There are 2 traders that can be found near the furnace.

Sellers

Jorzik

Jorzik is an armour salesman in the Keldagrim Blast Furnace. He buys armors from Mithril to Rune. He is placed at a very good spot, around the furnace and the anvils. This enables easy smithing and selling.

Armour store

Please note that, while Jorzik buys these armors, he does not restock them. He's just a good way to earn money from smithing items.

Ordan

Ordan is an ore salesman. He hangs around the same place as Jorzik. He is very close to the conveyor belt so it is very easy to just buy ores and put the ores on the conveyor belt.

Note that these prices are at their default stock at 100. Naturally, the price rises as the quantity decreases. Another notable aspect is the fact that this shop doesn't restock as a normal one does. Every so often, a Dwarf will come by and drop off a number of ores.
